A few weeks ago I quietly published my second short film, Ma Journée. Unlike The Stranger, this time there was no big buildup, no mini-trailer, no little promotion and their will certainly be no entering into film festivals.
The summer of last year (2017) I made a last minute decision to film my friends while on vacation in France. The idea was to follow the day of the man (money-maker in this case) and the woman (homemaker) with a small conflict and resolution at the end as they disagreed on whose daily routine was more challenging. We did some real guerrilla filming, with no microphone and no lighting for indoor shots, and in the end I didn’t have enough material to make the story.
This summer we were back in France and again spent a few days at our friend’s house. A couple days before arriving I made up a new story to take advantage of what we already filmed and film a few new scenes. This time I had my microphone on the road with me but not much else. We didn’t have much time but we managed to film a few conversations to put the story together. With the change in story I also got to do something with a positive message which was my intention from the start.
While not exactly a true story the story was based partially based on personal experience with the ups and down as a small entrepreneur. Being a little drama the style is very different from ‘The Stranger’. This even simpler little production was filmed much quicker and unfortunately there are some poor sound and lighting moments. After putting it together I wasn’t quite sure how it turned out so I published it quietly. If you haven’t seen it, check it out here and let me know what you think.
